About Matty B's
Relish with roots.
Our Story
In many ways, Matty B's has been in the making since 1987. But the dreams of turning a passion and home hobby into a business have roots going back over a decade. Matt's love of all things briny can be traced to his favorite little alleyway hot dog shop of his youth where he'd post up in the back room with a dog and a big side of dill pickle slices, often going back for round two on the pickles.
Just out of college, a close friend gifted him a book about pickling and a case of mason jars that set off a decade plus of experimenting at home and gifting pickle creations at holidays, birthdays, and even his wedding.
After relocating from Chicago to the East Coast, Matt developed several minced, relish-style recipes—including perfecting his Chicago-style giardiniera, the holy condiment of his hometown. He fell in love with the brilliance and versatility of fresh, relish-style pickles.
Turning this passion into a business and brand has been a labor of love and a long-time coming. So, Matt's now building Matty B's to share these de-lish-us creations with the world and bring to life years of tinkering, dreaming, and food systems work.
Matty B's is about celebrating your passion, making the thing you love, and expressing your values through your work. Onward and upward… relish the moment!

Meet the Team
Matt Baer
Founder
During Matt's senior year of college, a bear cub got stuck in a tree on campus. Someone shouted “Matty B in a tree!” and the nickname stuck. The pickles came later. The bear was fine.
