Matty B's Pickles & Relish
FAQs
Do you ship?
Not yet! But we're going to test online orders and shipping across the US very soon. Sign up for our email list to be the first to know when we go live!
Where can I find Matty B's?
Summer 2026, you'll find us mostly at Boston area farmer's markets. We're planning to sell online later in the year, do some local-only pickup, and start getting into some local restaurants / retail (pending a wholesale license). Check out the Find Us page for the latest.
Do Matty B's products need to be refrigerated?
Yep! All of our products (for now) need to be refrigerated. Even shelf stable pickles need to stay cool once opened, and we actually prefer 'em cold from the start. They're crunchier and more delicious in our opinion. In fact, we tested making our relishes shelf-stable but didn't like the results of applying so much heat as it ultimately degrades nutrition, texture, flavor, and appearance.
What's the shelf life of your products?
We stamp a "best if used by" date on all of our products, but that's just a suggestion. In fact, did you know the FDA only requires expiration dates on baby formula? Crazy, right? Anyway, our products are "best" within 60-90 days. But if you keep 'em cool and the oil above the veg (for the giardiniera), then they'll last you a while. We suspect you'll move through our jars swiftly though.
Are your pickles fermented?
None of our products are fermented (for now). We do use a short-brine curing method for all of our products, but it's not enough to get to true lacto-fermentation. That said, we love fermentation and have some fun ideas for future products.
Are your pickles organic?
Not certified (yet), but we use as many organic ingredients as we can right now. As we scale, Matty B's plans to be an organic and regenerative product.
Where do you get your ingredients?
We source from local, responsible producers and suppliers as much as we can and when in-season. Because we're starting out and (literally) a one man band at the moment, we're still developing our producer and supplier relationships. If you grow things we pickle, reach out!
Are you Kosher?
Technically yes, but we aren't certified. We'll get there as we scale.
Are you vegan and gluten free?
Yep! Although we are produced in a shared commercial kitchen space at the moment (by yours truly) that is not vegan or gluten free.
What is calcium chloride?
It's a natural mineral salt that gives us the added assurance that our products will maintain their crunchy texture. It's safe and very common in pickled products. Also used a lot in cheese and tofu.
Do you offer refunds or replacements?
Absolutely! If you buy a jar with issues, just reach out. We'll make it right. As we scale and start shipping, we'll probably have a more formal policy.
